This past weekend my friend Jozee and I decided to hop on a bus and get the heck out of North Beach. And although the need to leave North Beach for the night is not a new thing to us the choice of going to the Lower Haight was.
I myself have found my way to the Lower Haight a few times since my move to San Francisco but Jozee had never been. Of course at the end of the night, however, Jozee had deduced that the Lower Haight scene was much like that of Eugene, OR. And as far as Jozee was concerned she was past that. I love you Jozee, your amazing!
I enjoyed the change of pace and face that was the Lower Haight. Finding not only a younger more artsy vibe than my beloved North Beach but some good looking hipster types as well. For a girl with a love of beards and tattoo's it felt like I'd hit the jackpot. Forget the Mission! It's all about the Lower Haight. We made our way from bar to bar trying to find the right scene for our collective moods and ended up at Molotov's. A great little neighborhood place with CHEAP-A** drinks. But it was the Lower Haight and good prices for libations are kind of standard there. So we decided to explore some more.
While exploring we had the privilege of stumbling upon D-Structure in the Lower Haight. D-Structure(DSSF) is an art gallery, men's and women's boutique, print shop, design house and event space all rolled up into a neat little package. They have a strong goal to bring together the local community of artists, designers, and customers while helping them to explore their passions for art, music and fashion. One way they accomplish this is by having a sort of Open House on Saturdays which consist of Art shows, music, free drinks and the opportunity to explore the stores offerings.
The store has a great vibe and while the men's clothing is really fun and consists of: t-shirts with fun graphics, jeans, hoodies and the like. I felt like the women's section was a bit lacking. There are definitely some great items available but they could do better. They also have art prints for sale as well as some jewelry and accessories. Overall, I'd say I'm a fan.
I think our top find of the night besides all the beardo's was this shirt series that depicts a cat wrapped in a taco acting out various activities dubbed "Taco-Cat". Epic!

Check out D-Structure SF online or in store at 520 Haight ST., SF, CA. 94117
