Spring 2011 Favorites: First Round

I absolutely love both Martin Lamothe and Antik Batik. And as far as SS11 goes, the best part about being a long time fan of both lines is that they would pair beautifully together.

Check out both collections in their entirety here:

Traveling East for Westvleteren 12

I've been to Belgium, but I think it's time to venture back.  And not just for the elusive sip of Westvleteren 12 but to do a big beer lovers trip. Who's in?

I think the New York Times has a great list of places to stop by:
In de Vrede (Donkerstraat 13, Westvleteren; 32-57-40-03-77; indevrede.be)
Moeder Lambic (Place Fontainas 8, Brussels; 32-25-03-60-68)
Cantillon (Rue Gheude Straat 56, Brussels; 32-25-21-49-28; cantillon.be)
’t Brugs Beerje (Kemelstraat 5, Bruges; 32-50-33-96-16; brugsbeertje.be)
De Dolle Brouwers (Roeselarestraat 12B, Esen; 32-51-50-27-81; dedollebrouwers.be)
Brouwershuis (Trappistenweg 23A, Watou; 32-57-38-88-60; brouwershuis.com)

But I would personally add to the list with:
Brasserie d’ Achouffe (Rue du Village 32 6666 Achouffe, Belgium; 32 61 28 81 47; achouffe.be)
Abbey Notre-Dame d'Orval (Orval 2, 6823 Bruxelles, Belgium; 32 61 31 10 60 ‎; orval.be)

Deconstructing D-Structure

This past weekend my friend Jozee and I decided to hop on a bus and get the heck out of North Beach. And although the need to leave North Beach for the night is not a new thing to us the choice of going to the Lower Haight was.

I myself have found my way to the Lower Haight a few times since my move to San Francisco but Jozee had never been. Of course at the end of the night, however, Jozee had deduced that the Lower Haight scene was much like that of Eugene, OR. And as far as Jozee was concerned she was past that. I love you Jozee, your amazing!

I enjoyed the change of pace and face that was the Lower Haight. Finding not only a younger more artsy vibe than my beloved North Beach but some good looking hipster types as well. For a girl with a love of beards and tattoo's it felt like I'd hit the jackpot. Forget the Mission! It's all about the Lower Haight. We made our way from bar to bar trying to find the right scene for our collective moods and ended up at Molotov's. A great little neighborhood place with CHEAP-A** drinks. But it was the Lower Haight and good prices for libations are kind of standard there. So we decided to explore some more.

While exploring we had the privilege of stumbling upon D-Structure in the Lower Haight. D-Structure(DSSF) is an art gallery, men's and women's boutique, print shop, design house and event space all rolled up into a neat little package. They have a strong goal to bring together the local community of artists, designers, and customers while helping them to explore their passions for art, music and fashion. One way they accomplish this is by having a sort of Open House on Saturdays which consist of Art shows, music, free drinks and the opportunity to explore the stores offerings.

The store has a great vibe and while the men's clothing is really fun and consists of: t-shirts with fun graphics, jeans, hoodies and the like. I felt like the women's section was a bit lacking. There are definitely some great items available but they could do better. They also have art prints for sale as well as some jewelry and accessories. Overall, I'd say I'm a fan.

I think our top find of the night besides all the beardo's was this shirt series that depicts a cat wrapped in a taco acting out various activities dubbed "Taco-Cat". Epic!

My New Favorite Thing: Antler Crown's

This trend is not for animal lovers... or is it?

As many of my friends know I have had a lifelong obsession with deer horns and taxidermy so you can imagine the immense joy when I was introduced to the line Littledoe. The custom based accessory company out of Los Angeles was started in 2008. They craft each piece from antique materials and found items including: feathers, crystals, metals, stones and the like.

Yesterday they were featured in an article on stylefile.com. Which gave me a much needed reminder that I need to check up on their progress more often.

Be sure to check them out at: littledoeislove.com

It's Time to Dine About Town

Hello SF friends,

Just a reminder. This week was the start of the 10th Annual Dine About Town here in our gorgeous city by the bay. Be sure to make ressie's at a new spot on or before the 31st, when the scrumptious pre fixe menus will no longer have such tasty prices.

A.F. Vandevorst AW 11 is Banging... Literally!

As a huge fan of the line A.F. Vandevorst for many past seasons I find myself falling in love with the line all over again upon viewing their new AW 11 Collection. With draped military tones and styling it is at once strong and feminine. They then warm up the collection with some red tones to finish the show off, which are a stunning follow up to what might be my favorite collection of theirs yet. I would literally wear every piece! Can we say Fall/Winter wardrobe one-stop shopping?!

The only question I have is how did those models make it down the runway? I'm a big fan of bangs myself, but seriously, how can they see?
